Cathy Finch
Cathy’s photographic career began in newspapers, combining freelance travel journalism with inspiring images, moving into photojournalism on staff with the Gladstone Observer and presently Toowoomba regions photographer for the Courier Mail. Her work has been regularly published in a large range of outlets such as the prestigious Australian Geographic magazine, travel and adventure magazines, International and Domestic Tourism Associations, commercial giants and family homes.
Throughout Cathy’s career she was accepted as a ‘Lonely Planet’ photographer (Lonely Planet Travel Guide Books) – a highly sort after and scarce position desired by photographers worldwide. Merged now into the ‘Getty Image’ team (one of the World’s largest and leading suppliers of stock images) she continues to record people, places and events that are shared to the world.
Cathy has received many accolades throughout her career including ‘Best Portrait’ awards, ‘Best image taken in Australia’ and ‘Photographer of the Year’ for the Australian Society of Travel Writers. She was also featured by the esteemed Walkley Magazine for her coverage of the 2011 floods.
Today, basing herself in Toowoomba with her two beautiful daughters, Cathy continues to live a life of passion with photography, and far-away places, at the helm. She continues to specialise in travel and adventure.
We get to choose how we’re going to live – what level of energy, what level of vibrancy, and what level of excitement. I choose to live doing the things I love. How wonderful to be able to have a camera tied to me and record these moments in time in the most passionate of ways. Teaching photography is just an extension of me really. I love sharing my enthusiasm with others and extending a new skill.”
