Encaustic painting is an ancient art form that uses natural beeswax mixed with damar resin (a tree sap) and pigments to create beautifully layered, luminous artworks. Each layer of wax is painted on while warm and then fused with heat, giving the surface a gorgeous depth and a soft, tactile quality you can’t get with other mediums. Every piece is unique, with textures and details that shift and change as the light catches them.
Encaustic wax is surprisingly durable – it’s been around since ancient Egypt, after all! Your piece won’t melt under normal home conditions, but it’s best to keep it away from direct sunlight, heaters, or extreme heat.
